Founded in 1959 and redesigned in the early 1990s, Golf Club Perugia features a clubhouse created from a former 1921 lime kiln.
Its imposing towers still watch over a course inspired by the classic English layouts.
The Club
Golf Club Perugia 1959
The Golf Club of Perugia is a charming oasis just a few kilometres from the historic centre of Umbria’s capital. Established in 1959 through the vision of Mario Spagnoli, son of Luisa Spagnoli, the club began with the creation of its first two holes on what were then the clay soils of the Santa Sabina area. From that moment on, as the course gradually expanded with additional holes, the club quickly became a welcoming meeting place where conviviality and genuine friendship continue to bind its members and keep the association vibrant.
The gently undulating par-72 course, whose original core dates back to the late 1950s, was redesigned in the early 1990s by architect Davide Mezzacane. Lush vegetation frames many of the fairways, and several holes demand accuracy from the very first shot. While not particularly long, the course is rich in subtle challenges.
Today, the first golf club in Umbria spans fifty hectares and features eighteen championship holes, three executive holes, a driving range, swimming pool, bar, restaurant, parking area, and a renovated clubhouse offering new services and dedicated members’ spaces, including offices, a gym, and changing rooms with a Turkish bath.
With its two majestic chimneys, the clubhouse stands as the unmistakable symbol of the club. The current president is Marco Angelini. The club hosts amateur competitive events, including sponsored tournaments.
For those wishing to take up the game, the Golf Club also provides three professional instructors dedicated to teaching and player development. More than fifty years of history have not diminished the club’s spirit; on the contrary, they have strengthened it, with a confident eye toward the future.
